Workshop Renovation 2005 September 04, 2005 Installed the third florescent light today, over the spot where my workbenches will eventually be located. This light operates off a switch I installed a while back just for this purpose !
Also finished the next to last row of ceiling tile today, with the exception of the edge pieces, which will need to be done after I paint and mount some 1 by 4's.
Hoping to make an effort to move the workbenches tomorrow (actually have Labor Day off !). This is what the mess looks like now ... hopefully it will look better and a bit more organized tomorrow, or whenever I actually get to move them.
September 05, 2005 Got the workbenches moved as planned. Eventually both will move a little more to the left, but I still have some stuff in the corner that will have to be moved before I can do that.
September 10 - 11, 2005 Switched back to the kitchen this weekend ... finished the wall around the washer/dryer area finally !
Got the wall paneling ripped down from the last area to be replaced with wallboard.
While I was in the wall, I decided to add another outlet since this is an area where we charge a few things. Ended up having to add two outlets to get the one on the left where I wanted it. The existing wire wasn't long enough to reach this far. The original outlet I am tying into had a 12-3 wire coming in and a 12-2 going out. This was my first solo attempt with 12-3 wire, but when I got it all put together, it actually worked !
Anticipating mounting a few things on the wall, I went ahead and added some supports for this area. Still have another support to install before I close up the wall, which you can see in the picture folloing the one below.
Started putting in the insulation, and hope to get this part finished soon. Since I am having cataract surgery on my left eye this coming Friday, I may not be able to get this done for a bit, unless I can manage to do it during this week.
September 16, 2005 Took today off so I could go find a doctor to slice my eye open and give me an intraocular lens implant. My cataracts have started preventing me from being able to work on my projects effectively, but hopefully I will be able to see once again after the patch is taken off tomorrow morning !
September 24, 2005 Having reasonable recovered from eye surgery, I once again began my quest to create the perfect workshop. Phase II will involve adding a door on the right side of the workshop, along with a covered deck, lights, and ceiling fan. A bit ambitious, but I have a desire to build ! Below is the door cutout I made in order to begin this process:
Before continuing with the door installation, I need to anticipate the wiring I will need for future things while I still have easy access to the inside of the wall. I will need lights, ceiling fan, a counter inside the shop, a shelf outside the shop, outlets, and switches. I removed the old 14-2 wire and a few outlets that were in the existing wall, and will be replacing it with a 12-2 wire from the electric panel. I will be building a counter that will house one or two little refrigerators and a coffee pot. Below is the wire that will enter the counter:
The two pictures below show you how the wire will run up into the ceiling and on to the electric panel:
September 25, 2005 Installed the main studs for the door frame after running and securing the 12-2 wire. Next I installed the jack studs to hold the header. After assembling the header, I put into place, the put in 4 cripple studs for roof support. Looking good so far ...
When coming back in, I ran into a baby lizard, probably the product of the activity that was witnessed on May 8th of this year !
