Workshop Renovation

October 4, 2003

Well, I had to go get a few more 2 X 4's ... the two uprights on the left side above needed to be taller than the standard 8', but originally I had planned on using the uprights in the wall.  This did not work out due to the way they lined up, so two more had to be purchased.

Here is a view from the end showing the amazing and excellent work being done on this project !

Got up early this morning and got the floor for the top level cut to fit.  I had to take this piece in and out for fitting about half a dozen times, but it is worth it to make it fit just right !

Here is a close-up of the precision cuts made for this piece.

After I loaded the top with some plywood and wallboard, I decided to add an extra support just to make sure it would be strong enough in case I decide to park my car there.  No, it didn't start to collapse ... I just decided to make it stronger.  The cross pieces you see above were put in so when I add the wallboard here, I will have a backing for the frame for some more pegboard.  Yes, this is me thinking ahead !

Stepping back you can see the top piece that will be used for the pegboard frame.  I still need to do the same for the left side, but I am anxious to get the first piece of wallboard up !

Here it is, sort of ... turns out the rafters are either sagging a bit, or the concrete floor is higher in the center.  In any event, the wallboard is too tall to fit without trimming about half an inch off the top.  I will do this after a nap ... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Here is the rest of the wallboard installed, along with all the drywall screw holes spackled.  Almost ready to paint !

View from the end showing the floor of the plywood bin.  Notice the precision cuts around the 2 X 4's !

Another shot from the end, showing the storage up top for the smaller pieces, and the bottom section for a full 4' X 8' sheet of plywood or wallboard.  (I ran out of 4' by 8' sheets building this, so I will have to get more to put something in the bottom !)

Beautiful weekend ... got a lot done !  Painted all the new pegboard gloss black, built the pegboard frame using a 1 X 4 ripped into thirds, painted the frame black so it would look better where it shows, got the pegboard mounted, and moved stuff from the other pegboard near the door to this one.  Is this a fun place or what ??

Here is the original 4 X 4 pegboard, just inside the door of the workshop.  Took it down and painted it (and the frame) gloss black too ... finally !  I had so much fun painting (me ?  having fun painting ???) that I got inspired and picked out the colors I will use to paint the walls.  Just wait until you see that !  :-)
