Workshop Renovation 2004 March 07, 2004 Today I finally got to the plumbing challenge that began last January. Below are some before and after pictures ... click on the link below to read the FULL story ! Click here to see the plumbing fix done today !

And this is the new part about to be installed.

Worked on the final phase of the washing/dryer area today ... got the light installed FINALLY ! Hugh came by last night (catch his website at http://www.hmwilson.com ) to assist in running the wire, then today I risked my life playing in the breaker box to add a new line to this fixture. See the difference below:

Getting ready to put the new wallboard up in front of the washer/dryer area, so I need to make sure I don't leave wires unprotected from stray nails and other sharp things.
When I began to install the wallboard on the left side of the opening, it became obvious it was not going to fit flush to the frame of the folding doors, so I had to chisel it down a bit ...
... and in doing so, it now fits perfectly ! I have a feeling there will be a lot more chiseling since I am replacing the paneling with 3/8" wallboard. Sighhhhhhhhhhhhhh ...

Well, today is New Stovetop Day in Night Sky Workshop. The old one finally died and a new one is going in today. Let's see if we achieve this goal ...
Here is the counter with the old stovetop removed. There is a lot of caulk left to be cleaned up before we can proceed.
This is a shot of the downdraft venting system, along with the wire that will feed power to the new stovetop.
I took a picture of the old wiring configuration so I would have a bit of guidance when installing the new stovetop. Let's hope the new one has the exact same wires !
March 21, 2004 To give you an update on the stovetop installation, the following problems existed, or still exist:
Wish me LUCK !!!

Slowly continuing the stovetop installation ... here is the detail of a corner of the blue tile border. I am going to have to remove this and lay more tile so the stovetop will not have gaps on the sides. The red line you see drawn on the tile is where the edge of the stovetop comes when in place.
This is inside the cabinet that houses the vent system and wiring. I had to add a junction box to extend the wire and had Tony, the amazing electrician who has been doing some electrical stuff at work, come by and assist me in determining the absolutely correct way to connect the stove. For future reference, the black goes to the black, the red goes to the white feed, and the green and white from the stovetop goes to the copper feed. Notice that the shelf that was on the left is now gone to make room for the different configuration of the new vent system. Also a future challenge, the duct you see above is 5" in diameter ... not a common size to find these days. It is also offset about an inch and a half to the left of where the new stovetop vent comes in, and there is a floor joist just to the right of where the white wire is coming in, so it can't be moved much, if at all. Anyone have a flexible metal 5" duct available ?
Here is the blue tile removed. Flawless job, in that I did not chip any of the white tile that will remain. I don't think I have enough white left from the last tiling I did, so I will likely have to go find something else to put in here.

Well, I got the new tile border done yesterday, and this morning I applied the grout.
Still need to do a little buffing as it dries out, but it is getting there ! Hope to be able to get the stove installed today so at least we can cook on it. Hoping to get some assistance for the venting today so it will be FINISHED ! Later that same day ...
Tony, the amazing electrician, stopped by to lend a hand, primarily on the downdraft vent, but his electrical expertise won't hurt a bit !
Here it is ! Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy ! But does it work .... ??
YESSSSSSSSSSSS ! Puts out heat and everything ! Now stay tuned for additional kitchen renovation projects.
