Workshop Renovation

February 2, 2003

Finished getting the pegboard painted black, installed, and put up new shelving.  Ahhhhhhhhhhhh ... the Ultimate Workshop is beginning to come together !

Starting to look good !  Now to finish the rest of this wall and maybe get it painted !

February 3, 2003

About to finish the preparation for the sixth piece of wallboard.  I had to rewire this outlet today because someone had run the wire through the bottom instead of the top.  But it is all fixed now !

Now all the insulation is in place.  Just need to go get some more sheetrock so I can finish this wall.  Almost to the end now !  Just need about one more 4 X 8 sheet to finish the remainder of this wall, with the exception of the area around the fuse panel.  That will take some extra thinking because I want to make sure I have easy access to the top and bottom of the panel for future wiring.

Here is the seventh piece of wallboard installed.  Just have one and part of another to do and this wall will be finished, with the exception of the area around the fuse panel, which will require some special treatment so I can still have proper access for future wiring.

Here is the same piece from another angle.  Notice the precision work done on the outlet!

Here we have the area for the 7th piece of wallboard insulated.  Now it is a simple matter of preciously cutting the hole out for the window.  No problem when you are working in the Ultimate Workshop !

Later that same day ...

As the sun slowly sets, we now have the 7th piece of wallboard in place.  How in the world did he cut that piece around the window with such precision, you may ask.  Patience is the answer.  LOTS of patience.  But it does fit extremely well.  And we are now a mere 25" from finishing this wall.  Plus, there is the window sill and trim to do.  Geezzzzzzzzzzzzzz ... how can one person have so much fun ?

February 15, 2003

Here we have the 8th wallboard installed, which now completes the first wall, with the exception of the area around the fuse panel.  That will take some special treatment in order to allow me to have easy access for future wiring.  I also went ahead and put up a small piece of wallboard to the right of the door so it will look more finished in that corner.  If you will notice the board standing up in the bottom left of the picture, that is the next project.  I need to turn that into a window sill, as was done with the first window we encountered.  If all goes well, that will get done later today.  Time for another trip to Lowes to get some window trim !

Well, another precision job with the window sill.  Still plan to get to Lowes later today to get the window trim I need to finish off this window.  Weather is looking like sleet and freezing rain tomorrow, so will definitely need something to do !

February 16, 2003

Today is my wife's birthday, so in order to celebrate, she made me go out in the cold and work on my renovation project !   I was able to get to Lowes last night, but they didn't have the normal window trim I get.  All they had in pine was already primed, so I got it.  At least that will save some time later when I have to paint !  Here is the second window trimmed.  I also painted my shelving unit black.  Looks good with the red shelves, doesn't it ?  I believe I will be moving to the wall near the entrance door next.  That is the wall with the garage door, so it will go much quicker than this first wall.

Spent quite a bit of time cleaning up this area so I could access it.  Installed two more studs to accommodate the wallboard that will be going up next.  Need to come up with a tentative plan of what is going to be here so I can go ahead and install any 2 X 4's that may be needed for support.  Once that is done, I will proceed with the insulation.  That, and the fact that it is about 29 degrees outside at the moment !
