Workshop Renovation

December 1, 2003

Sunrise at Night Sky Workshop.

Getting ready to add more insulation and put the wallboard up.

I glued a few shims behind the outlet so it will not move at all when you are inserting a plug.

In case you wondered what my workshop looked like in her early stages, this is the framing before the roof was added.  Pretty neat, isn't it ?

Got quite a bit done this weekend.  Got the wallboard up to the window ... looking good !  Notice the insulation stuffed around the window ... professional work done at Night Sky Workshop !  Please excuse the spots in the picture above and below ... that happens when the camera flash reflects off dust particles in the air.  (I swept up a bit before taking these pictures, and that stirred up a bit of dust).

These four shelves will be moved to the wall area near the garage door entrance (previous picture).  I will be painting them red to match the theme colors in the workshop.  I think I will be putting two L-shaped shelves that used to be where these are going.  I will probably be building a half-wall (3 or 4 feet high) to accommodate them.  I still want to be able to pull a car in here in case I ever need to do that, so we will have to see if a car will still fit if I put that wall in.  Only three more pieces of wallboard and I will be finished up to the plywood storage area !

Major progression here ! Got the wall painted, the shelves disassembled and painted, and I am in the process of putting them back up in their new location !  I have to admit I picked some perfect workshop colors !

In case you bypassed the New Tools page, be sure to check out the stuff I got for Christmas, 2003.  Click here to see them !

Well, I finally got the entire shelf disassembled, painted, and relocated to its new home !  Yes, I have to admit it looks wonderful !  Notice the outlet precisely placed above the second shelf from the bottom, giving me the ability to add lighting, battery recharging, or any of a myriad of functional capacities in that area.  Plan to try and load the shelf up tomorrow so I will have all my table saw accessories in that area, along with other storage things.  I think this will be my nail and screw station too.

December 28, 2003

Finished securing the new shelf this morning (if you notice in the picture from yesterday, there were two pieces of wood supporting the top shelf ... but it is totally secured now !)  Put my table saw (seen above in the foreground) accessories on the second shelf from the bottom so I will have easy access to them.  Also put most of my nails and screws on that shelf.

The new shelf from another angle.  I can't begin to tell you how excited I am to finally get this finished !  Now to add a few more pieces of wallboard to finish up this section all the way to the plywood storage bin !  I will be charging a nominal admission fee and giving tours of Night Sky Workshop in the very near future.  Sign up now to avoid the rush !  :-)
