Zack and I will be entering the 2011 Beaufort National Boatbuilding Challenge.  The competition takes place on May 7th.  We have been hard at work, building a set or oars and a boatbuilding workbench.  Check out the progress below:

Oars in process of being crafted to meet our boating needs.

Oars finished and ready to use!

Boatbuilding Workbench, with fore and aft molds attached for bending the sides of the boat.

Clamp holder for attaching gunwales and inwales.

Coffee cup holder for added convenience and to stay alert during the competition!

The Boat

Well, the competition is over, and we didn't quite finish building our boat.  But, we got to bring the wood home, so we are working to complete it.  Check out the pictures below:

Above is the first part of the bottom of the boat, attached and cut to fit.

Another angle of the bottom.

Here is the rest of the bottom attached.  It is actually starting to look like a real boat!

Above is a picture of the boat flipped over with the fore and aft molds still in place.

A little detail work on the transom, giving it a curved shape.

Detail of the bow.
