Workshop Renovation April 1, 2003 Running low on funds at the moment ... donations are welcome ... help build the most amazing workshop in the world ! :-)
April 14, 2003
Spent the last few days on the Gulf Coast in Gulfport, MS. There is a workshop there that I just HAD to see that is famous the world over for the craftsmanship and many amenities that are included with it ... heat AND air ... bathroom ... sink ... refrigerator ... water heater ... air compressor ... geezzzzzzzzzzzzzzz ..... I have a LOT of catching up to do to compete with that place ! Thanks Mike !
April 19, 2003 Well, since April is going a bit slow due to financial needs, let's zoom back to last July when I created the sidewalk going up to the workshop. Here it is:
First, I staked in the borders, dug out the excess dirt, poured sand in, then began laying brick.
Once that was complete, I rubbed sand in all the joints between the brick so they would become very stable and never move again unless I asked them to do so.
Sweeping most of the excess away, you can see a beautiful brick sidewalk appear, seemingly out of nowhere ! Damn, I love brick !

Due to some problems with water running into the workshop at the front door, I decided to install two drain grates to hopefully alleviate that problem. Here you see the template I created to make sure this was a workable option before I cut into my deck. I was only able to get one installed due the the amazing challenges presented during this seemingly tiny project. Because of the location near the door frame, the fact that I, for some unknown reason, used ring shank nails to secure the decking boards (which are nearly IMPOSSIBLE to pull out !), the location of the joists beneath the deck, and the fact that this drain grate seems to only be available in the Lowes in Lexington, NC and Gulfport, MS, this project will take a tad longer than one might think. I hope to get the other one installed this week, and will give you a list of ALL the tools it takes to do this. But is sure looks wonderful, doesn't it ? :-)
